Jhordin Galmore runs in the 400-meter relay race on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the SIU Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex in Carbondale, Ill.

Highlighted by Iaunia Pointer’s record setting performance in the 100m dash, the Salukis traveled to Indiana State this past weekend for the Gibson Invitational, where the men’s and women’s teams both finished top-five out of almost 20 total teams.

The men’s team finished in second place, just behind the home team, Indiana State, at 111.5 points, while the women’s team finished in fourth with a score of 86. Indiana State also took first on the women’s side of things.

Pointer put up a time of 11.31 to break her own school record set just last year and earned first in the event. She helped win one of seven different events that the Salukis earned first in throughout the meet.

Rachel Anderson took home first in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a 10:40.37 time, while her male counterpart, Dawson Plab also won the men’s version of the race at a 9:10.48 time

Daniel Norris earned a win in one of the field events. His 54.49m mark in the men’s discus was good enough for first.

As for relays, the men’s 4×100 team took home first with Kyle Burgoni, Jeremiah Hamilton, Xavier Preston, and Christian Donatelli posting a 40.3 time together. The women’s 4×400 relay team had Pointer, Shavell Riley, Miracle Berry, and Vashti Grey finishing with a 3:47.71 time, also winning first in the event.

The Dawgs will look to keep their momentum going in the Jesse Owens Classic next weekend, where Ohio State will play host in Columbus Ohio.
