SIU Track and Field compete in Rutgers Open

The SIU Track and Field teams took the long drive to New York this weekend for a two day meet at the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Open.

One Saluki came up with a first place finish, Shauniece O’Neal, in the women’s 22.98 women’s throw.

Iaunia Pointer kept things going for her with fifth place finish in the women’s 60m dash (7.61) and 200m dash (23.99). The 4x400m race also contained Pointer, Miracle Berry, Shavell Riley, and Vashti Grey to run a 3:52.92 time and a fourth place ranking.

For the field events, Madison Ingle improved a lot in the women’s weight throwing at 19.34m.

Despite not having a first place finish, the men had themselves a day. Freshman phenom, Xavier Preston earned 3rd in the 60m dash and second in the 200m dash with a 6.85 time and a 21.59 time.

Cole Targgart and Daniel Norris both had top 3 finishes. Targarrt threw for a 17.05m distance in the men’s shot put to earn second place, while Norris finished third in the weight throw with a 18.31 tie.

The Salukis will pack it up once again next weekend row another road meeting in Nashville Tennessee for the Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt.
