Four people were sent to the hospital Thursday night after a two-vehicle crash in downtown Carbondale at the intersection of North Illinois Avenue and East Main Street.
Carbondale police and fire rescue crews responded to a report of a car accident at 9:34 p.m. in the 100 block of North Illinois Avenue, said Lt. Matt Dunning of the Carbondale police. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known by police, but all four people were alert and responsive, Dunning said.
Police learned one car was traveling northbound on North Illinois Avenue and the other car was going westbound on East Main Street when they collided in the intersection. One vehicle went over the sidewalk on the northwest corner and crashed into the edge of a law office building.
Firefighters had to extricate the driver of one vehicle, who was pinned in the mangled car, Dunning said.
Police are still investigating what caused the accident.
