Southern Illinois falls to Mizzou in Valiant Effort
The Salukis (0-2) headed to Columbia, Missouri to take on the Mizzou Tigers (2-1) on Aug. 25 where they lost. SIU showed visible improvement from last year, but it wasn’t enough to knock off the SEC powerhouse.
Mizzou scored first, putting in a shot roughly three minutes into the match.
The Salukis scored their first and only goal with 36:26 left in the first half. The goal was scored by senior defender Alyssa Fallon, for the first of her career, and first on the season for Southern Illinois.

The Tigers scored again just a short minute later, with 35:06 left in the first. This put them in a comfortable 2-1 lead.
To say that the game was back and forth would be light, as both teams easily managed to get opportunities at the goal. The Dawgs held their own against the mightier Tigers.
At 25:50 left in the first half, another goal was scored by Mizzou. The Tigers strengthened their lead 3-1.
The referees were certainly letting the women play. The Salukis got away with roughly three or four calls that could’ve gone Mizzou’s way throughout the course of the game.
Neither team managed to score again before the end of the half.
Near the middle of the second half, SIU had an opportunity to cut the lead to one, but they didn’t manage to capitalize on the opportunity. Both teams battled in the second half, but the defenses stood strong. The Tigers and Salukis couldn’t score again.
The Salukis hope to bounce back from the 3-1 loss against Alabama A&M ( 1-1) next week on Thursday, September 1.
