Southern Illinois baseball team throws a no-hitter against Austin Peay in home opener, leading to a 10-0 victory
Southern Illinois took on its outer-state rival, Austin Peay, in a game where the Salukis came out on top 10-0. This is the Dawgs’ third straight time scoring ten or more points in a contest. The previous two games were against the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
All four led the charge for the Salukis with a no-hitter in the first game at Itchy Jones stadium. Three of the four pitchers were making their Division 1 debut. This was the Salukis’ first nine-inning no-hitter since 1953.
SIU started their scoring outburst with a home run in the bottom of the first inning from senior outfielder J.T. Weber. This was his second on the season.

The Salukis continued their hot streak in the sixth inning, where they scored four more runs to put Southern Illinois ahead 9-0.
SIU’s final run came at the hands of yet another home run, this time from junior outfielder Darren Taylor in the seventh inning. This capped off all of the Salukis’ points for the evening, which made the final score 10-0.
Along with the all-out display off talent, this is Southern Illinois’ second straight win over the Governors of Austin Peay.
The Dawgs will play its next game against Central Arkansas at 3 p.m. Southern Illinois will spend the weekend, Feb. 25-27, battling the Bears.
