Southern Illinois University will not be open Friday as initially expected due to continued severe winter weather conditions.

With ice and several inches of snow on the ground, dangerous driving and walking conditions persist.

“All Friday classes (face to face, hybrid and online) will be canceled and will not be delivered remotely. Residence halls and residential dining centers will remain open as will the Department of Public Safety. The Rec Center will be open until 7 p.m. today and noon to 7 p.m. on Friday.  All other campus buildings and offices will be closed,” said a statement from SIU’s Emergency Operations Center.

Normal operations were set to resume Saturday at 6 a.m. but the university will “continue to monitor the weather forecast and road conditions.”

Offices will be open and classes will be in session on Monday, and staff should report as regularly scheduled, the statement said.
