SIU women’s swim and dive team hosted the Illinois Fighting Illini and the Illinois State Redbirds at Shea Natatorium Friday evening. The Salukis dominated the Redbirds 204-95, but came up just short against the Fighting Illini 155-144.

Saluki women took first place in nine of the 16 events, with Illinois winning the other seven. Standout swimmers included freshman Celia Pulido, who won four events on Friday: the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, the 200-yard individual medley, and the 200-yard medley relay alongside partners Lucia Romero, Ali Robertson, and Jasmine Rau.

Robertson and Rau won events of their own, taking first in the 100-yard breaststroke and 10-yard butterfly respectively. Sophomore Ella Kerr won the 200-yard breaststroke event. Fifth-year senior Sierra Forbord led the way in both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events.
