The Salukis traveled to Evansville, Indiana on Oct. 13 to take on the Purple Aces. SIU was unable to get a conference win and lost 1-0.

The Evansville Purple Aces started off the game strong, forcing junior goalkeeper Maddy Alaluf to be on her toes throughout the beginning of the game.

The first and only goal of the night came at 9:05 into the first half. The goal was scored by Evansville senior forward Emily Ormson. The assist on the play came from senior midfielder Alex Eyler.

The Salukis managed to keep the ball on the opponents’ side of the field for most of the half after that, but were unable to even the score.

The second half was more of the same for the Salukis. Opportunities presented themselves, but the ball couldn’t find its way into the goal.

SIU’s Alaluf finished the goal with seven saves and only one goal allowed. Junior forward Liz Brechtel finished with two shots and two shots-on-goal, leading her team on offense.

Five players played all 90 minutes on the field for the Salukis. Including, Alaluf, Brechtel, junior defender Sam DeJulio, junior midfielder Kaitlin Ducharme and junior defender Georgina Franco.

The Salukis’ women’s soccer team plays next on Oct. 17 against Loyola-Chicago. The game will take place at Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex at 1 pm.
