The Saluki women’s volleyball team (3-4) took on the Saint Louis University Billikens (4-3) in Davies Gym where they lost in three sets.

The Billikens dominated the first set 25-17. SIU had a strong start, only for Saint Louis to bounce back and score seven straight points. This gave the Billikens enough momentum to move on from their slow start.

Saint Louis continued their streak winning the second set 27-25. This was SIU’s best performing set of the night and gave Saint Louis their best contest.

In the final set, the Salukis kept it close until both teams reached 10 points. With the score 20-16, freshman Anna Jaworski set to sophomore middle Margherita Giani who killed it over two SLU hitters. However, this was not enough to give SIU the momentum they needed, as they lost the final set 25-19.

Saint Louis sophomore Emily Henken led all players with 10 kills. For SIU, junior Nataly Garcia added nine kills.

Jaworski had 26 assists to lead both teams.

SLU sophomore Carlie Rodgers had 12 digs to lead the way on the defensive end. Billiken sophomore Delaney Rice also made her presence felt on defense with six blocks.

Southern Illinois will play next on September 10 against Eastern Illinois in the Banterra Center.
