Jackson County Health Department reported 72 new cases of COVID-19, the county’s second-highest single-day total.

The cases included: eight people under ten, three preteen, five teens, 22 in their twenties, thirteen in their thirties, one in his forties, six in their fifties, six in their sixties, five in their seventies, and two in their eighties, and one in his nineties. 

As of Nov. 20, there have been 2,405 cases in Jackson County, including 30 related deaths, and forty-nine individuals were released from isolation in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Franklin and Williamson Counties have reported 112 new cases.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Health reported 13,012 new cases of coronavirus in Illinois, including 126 additional deaths.

As of Nov. 20, there have been 634,395 cases and 11,304 deaths in Illinois.

As of Nov. 9-15, SIU reported 31 positive COVID-19 cases with 25 of these were students and six were faculty. On Nov. 13, SIU reported 18 students in isolation.

Starting today, the state of Illinois was placed on Tier 3 mitigation measures to help reduce the spread of coronavirus through the holidays.

The Jackson County Health Department recommends the following actions: 1) Stay home as much as possible. Only go out for work or essential items, if possible. 2) Avoid parties and gatherings of all sizes – crowds are an ideal environment for spreading COVID-19. 3) Keep at least 6ft of space between yourself and others as much as possible. 4) Wear a face mask when around others. The latest research shows cloth masks protect the wearer, as well as others. 5) Stay home if you are sick, even if you only have mild symptoms. Get tested. Self-isolate while awaiting test results. Stay home when placed in isolation or quarantine. 6) Workplaces should follow all guidance published by IDPH and DCEO, as well as the Restore Illinois Resurgence Mitigations. 7) Return calls to public health officials and follow their instructions.

The Jackson County Health Department asks all residents to follow public health guidelines by wearing a mask in public, maintaining social distance, avoiding social gatherings, washing hands frequently, and working with health department officials as they conduct contact tracing.
