Kathi Griffin, IEA president, said in a statement that she is in support of the Murphysboro Education Association.

“We want to turn Illinois #RedforEd on Wednesday for our sisters and brothers in Murphysboro,” Griffin said. “To the Murphysboro Education Association: we are with you. You have the strength of the IEA behind you.”

Griffin said Murphysboro educators are fighting for strong public schools for all students, and the IEA supports their members for using their collective voice to fight for their students’ rights to a quality public education.

The MEA began their strike on Oct. 3.

The statewide #RedforEd campaign begins Wednesday, Oct. 9. The MEA is encouraging everyone to participate.
