Suspect arrested after possible attempted abduction at Macy’s in Carbondale

Carbondale police officers responded to a call regarding a possible attempt to abduct a child at University Mall on Sept. 8, according to a police press release.

The incident occurred at the Macy’s department store in the mall at approximately 3:53 p.m.

The suspect, Argenis Hernandez, 23, of Chicago, followed the victim and an infant child inside the store and attempted to record or photograph them with a cellphone.

The suspect was apprehended and arrested on charges of stalking and disorderly conduct.

During the course of the investigation, officers located the suspect, and arrested him. Hernandez was transported to the Jackson County Jail where he was incarcerated.
