Women’s golf finishes second at Battle of Boulder Creek

The Saluki women’s golf team opened their season this week in Las Vegas, finishing second at the Battle of Boulder Creek with a total score of 915 across the three rounds.

Southern finished behind UNLV who finished with a team total of 876.

After the first day of the tournament on Monday, the Dawgs ere in second place teeing for a score of 307 in the first round and 299 in the second round, finishing 24 shots behind the first day leader UNLV.

Leading the way on the first day of the tournament for SIU was sophomore Emilyee McGiles who was tied for seventh overall with a score of plus seven to be tied for seventh overall, graduate student Jackie Biggs finished next followed by sophomore Moyea Russel, and junior Erica Kerr.

After day two today, the Salukis finished the Battle of Boulder Creek behind UNLV, with Drake in third, Weber State in fourth, the University of Illinois-Chicago in fifth and Long Island filling out the field.

McGiles and Biggs were the top golfer for Southern in the tournament finishing tied for eighth and a three round total of 228, Kerr came in tied at  13th shooting for 235, junior Lilian Klekner-Alt followed tied for 15th, senior Sun Jung and Russel finished in 17th and 18th respectively for Southern.

Southern will be teeing off next at the Islanders Classic February 25th and 26th in Corpus Christi, Texas.
