Funk music sets off the new semester

By Jake Saunder

Funk bands brought in the new semester for SIU students Friday night at Hangar 9’s “Funk Bash.” The evening was celebratory of those students returning to continue their education. Long into the night, the venue became overwhelmed with many enthusiastic patrons. Eventually, the bands The Heard and Soul Glo managed their music to join together every onlooker until there were no longer individuals, but those all connected in a genuine interest and love for rolling and roaring sound. Melodic, the people began swaying like waves and rising and falling thoroughly entertained with every pulse of beats resounding from the brass and percussion on stage. The instruments themselves seemed no longer to exist as simply components separate from the artist playing, but grew fondly together in harmony.

For a longer overview of the event, as well as interviews with band members, check back in tomorrow’s Daily Egyptian.
