Carbondale police investigate two Sunday night shootings

Two shootings resulting in non-life threatening injuries occurred Sunday night, with one male being transported to St. Louis for additional treatment according to Carbondale police.

Police responded to the first report of shots fired at around 11:25 p.m. at the 1200 block of North Bridge St. Sunday night, according to Carbondale Police. Officers learned on arrival at the scene that a white vehicle was seen leaving the area at a fast speed prior to the officer’s arrival.

Police said a male subject was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with two gunshot wounds by a third party.

“The injuries were not life threatening, but he was transported to a St. Louis area hospital for additional treatment,” the Carbondale Police Department’s press release said.

The second shooting occurred early Monday morning at 12:40. The police said an officer on patrol heard shots being fired near the 400 block of North Robert A. Stalls. Avenue area.

Following the incident, a second male arrived at Memorial Hospital with a single gunshot wound.

“His injuries were also non-life threatening,” according to the Police Department’s press release.

There is currently no information to indicate whether the two incidents are connected, police said. Investigations for both of these incidents are ongoing.
