February 12, 2018
For the second consecutive week and the fourth time this season, junior center Kavion Pippen was named the MVC Newcomer of the Week.
On Monday, the league announced Pippen’s honor following his two impressive performances against Illinois State and Bradley last week.
In SIU’s loss to Illinois State on Feb. 8, Pippen posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 turnovers. Against Bradley, he racked up another 21 points with eight rebounds, four blocks and one steal.

Southern’s victory over Bradley marked the fifth straight game that the junior transfer recorded double-digit point totals.
To this point in the season, with only four regular-season games to play, Pippen is second on the team in scoring with 12.6 points per game. He also leads the Salukis with 37 blocked shots and 165 rebounds.
Pippen will look to continue his dominance in the conference when the Salukis face Missouri State on Feb. 14 at SIU Arena.
