Campus police are investigating a possible sexual assault that took place in Mae Smith Hall, authorities said.

The incident was reported Saturday and a campus-wide email was sent to the university community in accordance with Clery Act reporting requirements.

Both the victim and suspect are students and are reported to be acquaintances, the email said. Police gave no physical description of the suspect.

The SIU Department of Public Safety is investigating the assault.
