Two men charged in shooting death of Tim Beaty

Two 21-year-old men have been charged with first-degree murder for the death of local musician Tim Beaty.
Travis Tyler and John Ingram, both of Cape Girardeau, Mo., face murder charges and various firearm charges stemming from a shooting March 27 in Carbondale, according to a Jackson County State’s Attorney press release. Beaty was killed when a house party on the 400 block of West Walnut Street near his home erupted in gunfire and he attempted to help two people away from the scene, the Daily Egyptian previously reported.
Tyler and Ingram, both 21 from Cape Girardeau, were previously charged with and pleaded not guilty to aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied building.

Both men now each face two counts of first-degree murder, a Class-X felony, one count of aggravated battery with a firearm and two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, both Class 1 felonies.
Police allege while acting together the men knowingly and unlawfully shot at Nehemiah Greenlee, causing the death of Beaty, according to the release.
The murder charges carry a 20-year minimum, 60-year maximum sentence if convicted. The firearm charges carry a six-year minimum, 30-year maximum sentence without probation.
Carbondale Police Department and the Illinois State Police Crime Lab are still investigating.
