An unidentified male student is reported to have been hit by a vehicle in the crosswalk on Grand Avenue near the Recreation Center while riding a bicycle Wednesday.

SIU Chief of Police Benjamin Newman confirmed that at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday the Carbondale Police Department and the Department of Public Safety responded to the incident. Carbondale police is conducting an investigation of the accident.

Newman said the student was taken to the emergency room and was treated for minor injuries. No information about the driver of the vehicle was available.
