Illinois is getting in gear for its own primary March 15.

Here’s a look at the candidates’ stances on topics SIU students may want to keep in mind as the state’s primary approaches. The following information was pulled from this New York Times article, this Esquire article and this Mother Jones article

All Republican candidates are in favor of doing away with the Affordable Care Act.

Democratic candidates

The left-wing candidates are in favor of marriage equality and LGBTQ rights, granting citizenship to undocumented immigrants, tightening gun control laws, allowing Syrian refugees into the country and increasing taxes imposed on the wealthy. Both are pro-choice and believe more needs to be done on climate change.

Hillary Clinton

  • Mostly in support of the Affordable Care Act
  • Supports medical marijuana use
  • Supports the death penalty
