The SIU men’s swimming and diving team finished the second day of the Mid-American Conference’s Championship remaining in fourth place.

Senior Till Pallmann won his fourth straight 500-yard freestyle conference title with a time of 4:18.16, five seconds ahead of the second place swimmer junior Kyle Lichtenburg of Eastern Michigan University.

Pallmann also swam lead leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay, which set a new pool, and program record of 1:19.74 and finished in first place. Pallmann’s time of 19.92 in his leg would have placed first in the 50-yard freestyle swim.

His teammates, sophomore Joao Facciotti, juniors Lucas Aquino, and Andre Luiz Brilhante led the entire race.

“The dawgs showed up tonight and were ready to leave a mark,” coach Rick Walker said. “If we want to stay in the team race we have to get more into the evening, which as predicted, is very fast and very deep.”

Faccioti placed third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 0:20.39.

Brilhante finished fifth in the 200-yard individual medley behind teammate, junior Fillippo Dell’olio, who set a new program record of 1:47.44

The team’s score is 46 points behind the third place team of Missouri State.

The first event starts tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Ypsilante, Mich.
