The National Association of Basketball Coaches named senior guard Anthony Beane to the all-district team Friday.

He is the first SIU player to receive first-team honors from the NABC since Jamaal Tatum in 2007.

Four other members of the Missouri Valley Conference were named to the first team with Beane. Wichita State seniors Fred Van Vleet, Ron Baker and Evansville seniors Egidijus Mockevicius, D.J. Balentine were all first-team all-district players.

Beane ended his career third on SIU all-time scoring list with 1,917 points and tied for the all-time record in points scored in SIU Arena (885). His average of 19.3 points per game was good enough for second place in the MVC behind Balentine.

Balentine called Beane one of the most athletic guards in the country this season.

This season SIU had its best overall record, 22-10, since 2006-07 season. The Normal native led the team in points per game, minutes per game (34.3) and 3-pointers made (71).
