Blog Wars: Most reprehensible rock star
March 4, 2009
Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne seemed a bit jealous about indie rock superstars Arcade Fire in a recent interview, calling them ‘pricks,’ according to Luke McCormick’s column ‘Loose (Flaming) lips sink ships.’ Who is the most reprehensible rock star?

This honor goes out to Weezer lead man Rivers Cuomo for turning the troupe of nerd rockers that recorded ‘Say it Ain’t So’ and ‘Buddy Holly’ to a mainstream pop band while pretending to be hip. Have you heard his lyrics in the band’s recent albums (‘Make Believe’ and ‘The Red Album’)? Songs such as ‘Beverly Hills,’ ‘Troublemaker,’ ‘Pork and Beans’ and ‘Everybody Get Dangerous’ make me cringe every single time. Weezer will always have a place in my music library, but do not expect their recent tracks to have high play counts.

Besides this guy? I’ll go with all members of Dropkick Murphys. Their song ‘Tessie’ was one of few bad things in the best baseball game ever made, ‘MVP Baseball 2005.’ It’s not like it was just a bad song. It made no sense at all. Look up the lyrics, the song is just incoherent drivel recorded by chimpanzees. And now ‘Tessie’ is stuck in my head. Damn it all ‘hellip;

I hesitate to say she’s a rock star, but that Fergie, man. I tell ya. She’s terrible! She completely ruined the Black Eyed Peas! They use to be a good band once so very long ago. Then here comes Fergie, destroys the band’s musical integrity, and moves on to a crappy solo career pinned solely on her fergaliciousness. She’s not even that fergalicious! It was bad enough when Diana Ross ditched the Supremes or when Beyonce broke up Destiny’s Child; at least both those ladies have serious musical diva abilities, though. It sucked that they essentially abandoned friends who would never be able to pull off solo acts themselves, but they were talented! Fergie took an awesome band, turned it into crap, and pooped it out for record sale dollars. Terrible.

It has been scientifically proven that Fred Durst was the worst rock star of all time. Durst almost ruined music for future generations, but luckily Limp Bizkit couldn’t get along with each other and they parted ways. He tried to make the rock/rap genre cool, but there was one huge problem, he couldn’t rock or rap. He wrote awful lyrics that made no sense and the songs were composed terribly. I don’t like to criticize when I know I couldn’t do any better, but trust me, I could do better and I am sure you could too. The phenomenal guitarist Zakk Wylde once said Fred Durst was ‘hellip;well ‘hellip; I actually can’t write that.’ ‘
