Imagine you are at your desk at work and you just finished a giant project for a company that you don’t get credit for. You get a new boss who sucks but is also played by Dylan O’Brien, who invites you to travel to Bangkok for a work trip.
On the way, the plane crashes and everyone dies but you and him. “Send Help” does an amazing job keeping you on your toes. Your opinion will shift back and forth until the climax.

I would not recommend watching any trailer before going into this movie as it tells too much. It is directed by Sam Raimi, who directed the original “Evil Dead” trilogy and Toby Macguire “Spiderman” trilogy.
If you are a fan of “Survivor,” you would love this movie.
The movie does answer one big question. What if you had all of the control, rather than your boss?
Rachel McAdam’s character Linda Liddle is relatable. I feel awful for her. The movie says many times how important she is to the company. She saved the former CEO many times and was promised a vice president spot that didn’t happen.
The company doesn’t treat her well, even the people in her department. Dyan O’Brien’s character Bradley Preston is seen as a figure of hope for this position.
When he is introduced it is set that he is not a jerk and is sexist. Some of the scenes were really uncomfortable with the super close ups that not only let you see the piece of tuna on his hand but the pores as well.
He ends up giving the vice president position to a guy who has only worked for the company for six months. We find out that they were in the same fraternity.

They decide that Linda should accompany them on the plane and then fire her after.
We get to see Linda’s home life. She is single and has a bird. She also is obsessed with Survivor. She has books lined in the living room and trinkets from it and when she goes to turn on the television it instantly turns on. It’s clear she loves the show and has probably watched every season.
On the plane, the guys find her audition video for Survivor and make fun of her while she has the back row to herself.
The plane has a bump and then starts going down. So far, Linda hasn’t really stood up for herself. But as the guys are watching her film it transitions very well where they make a comment about her not being able to make it and she speaks up. As soon as she does the plane has that first bump and then starts falling.
The CGI of the plane wasn’t that impressive but it was such a small part of the movie it doesn’t matter all too much.
On the island, Linda starts thriving. She knows exactly what to do to get fresh water and this is where her confidence starts to grow. The island was filmed in Sydney, Australia, Thailand and Los Angeles. The island reminded me of “Survivor” and I wish they filmed in Fiji, as it isn’t too far from Sydney.
Bradley and Linda are foils of each other. Throughout the film, Linda grows and Bradley stays the same. He gains some skills but his mindset never changes.
Linda finds Bradley on the island with a gnarly leg. This leaves him unable to get up for weeks. This is where the control shifts. He orders Linda around and she leaves him for days making him realize that he needs her.
After a few days of exploring Linda finds a boar that she wants to hunt. She kills this board but not after a bloody fight. It felt like “Scream” the way the boar seemed to have died and then gained energy and rushed towards her.
It’s been 17 years since Raimi has directed a horror movie. Yet, the scenes reminded me of “Evil Dead” with how bloody they are.
The foreshadowing is a little over the top, but the foreshadowing about the x rocks of the mountains was really clever. I didn’t think anything of it.
Bradley’s leg starts getting better and he starts to help out but things keep going back to the knife that Linda found that washed up on shore. I should have known that was a lie and what’s funny is she said that towards the end of the film.
They start opening up more to each other and Linda drops that she caused the death of her husband. This is where I didn’t know who to root for.
The two start getting closer but I never felt like they loved each other even at the end. Linda literally accidentally calls Bradley the name of her bird.
She does throw a lot of the words Bradley used to say to her back at him which was satisfying.
Linda sees a boat and it leads to the decision to stay on the island or go on the boat and go back to the way things were. As much as it sucks to be stuck, Bradley would never have given her a high position within the company.
This leads to a back and forth where Bradley poisons Linda to escape and his raft breaks apart. Once he is back on shore, Linda poisons him with a blue ringed octopus which supposedly only paralyzes him. In reality, the blue ringed octopus would have killed him.
This scene you have to see for yourself. It felt so uncomfortable, but I feel like a different animal could have been used to paralyze him.
Linda starts losing her mind and making worse decisions to keep them on the island. That led to the final showdown between Bradley and Linda.
These scenes were incredible. Most of the special effects budget went into the bore scene and this final scene but they bring quite a bit of gore. Bradley and Linda are pretty evenly matched. I went back and forth on who would win this fight.
The callbacks and transition to the final scenes beautifully wrapped up the story.
Final rating 7.5/10
