The annual Du Quoin State Fair kicked off once again on Friday, Aug. 22 with the Twilight Parade. Rides, concessions and event booths covered the route from Main Street to Midway Drive offering entertainment for families, friends and fairgoers from all walks of life.
The fair runs until Labor Day on Monday Sept. 1. SIU faculty and staff can park for free on Saturday, Aug. 30 during SIU Day by presenting an SIU ID and experience a variety of events at the First Heat building including photo-opportunities with the Saluki dogs, hands-on activities with the School of Physics and more. Artist Tucker Wetmore performs that evening at the Grandstand starting at 7:30 p.m.

The Beer Tent offers free entertainment acts throughout the week while country artists Jake Owens and Gabby Barrett are performing on Aug. 30 and Sept. 1 at the Grandstand. Other free events are happening throughout the week including the Illinois Products Show where 15 vendors will bring free food samples and other crafts to the Expo Hall for three days in the evenings on the weekend of Aug. 29.
