After two weeks of waiting after a historic tie in Jackson County, Marsha Cascio-Hale is named States Attorney. Joseph Cerventez, who has been in office since 2020, lost by 19 votes.
The delay was due to provisional votes and mail-in votes taking some time to be counted. On the day of the election, both candidates had 10,805 votes. After counting finished, Republican Cervantez had 10,892 votes while Democrat Cascio-Hale had 10, 911.

“I am very excited. There is much to be done,” Cascio-Hale said. “I’m ready to serve the citizens of Jackson County in a more direct way.”
Cascio-Hale has many plans for her administration. One is to implement self-defense classes and an anti-bullying campaign into the system for Jackson County. Alongside these things, what is most important to her is the cases she will be presiding over.
“The first thing I’m going to do is get in there and see where the cases are and make sure there aren’t cases that are floundering, I want to make sure that they get through the system.”

Cascio-Hale says she will work hard to find the answers that the citizens want. This includes being truthful with her constituents and digging for the truth when she can.
“I will always be truthful,” Cascio-Hale said. “If I don’t know the answer, I will find it.”
She said what she wants to do for her position is set the future administrations up for success- not just her own.
“I want to set things up for the long-term, not just a short-term fix.”
The Daily Egyptian reached out to Cerventez for comment, but received no answer.
