SIU competes at National Invitational Championship

Southern Illinois swimming and diving hosted a tri-meet against Little Rock and Valparaiso at Shea Natatorium on March 12, 2021 in Carbondale, Ill.

The SIU swimming and diving teams, both men and women, competed at the National Invitational Championship last weekend.

Both teams put up strong performances, with the men finishing number 23 out of 41 and the women finishing number 26 out of 57.

Each team sent six members to the competition; the men competing were Alex Santiago and Adam Cernek, Alex Cimera, Nicloas Lanuza, Donat Csuvarszki, and Tiago Faleiros.

Celia Pulido, Olivia Herron, Lucia Romero, Ali Robertson, Karen Rodriguez, and Mima Zaborska represented the women’s team.

The Dawgs had several top 3 finishers. Pulido absolutely flew in the Women’s 100 Meter Backstroke, with an impressive time of 53.19 seconds. Herron took second in the Women’s 200 Meter Breaststroke, with a blistering time of 2:12.68. The Men’s 400 Meter Freestyle relay, composed of Santiago, Cimera, Lanuza, and Csuvarszki, claimed third with a time of 2:55.65.
