Dawgs take down the Sycamores at home

The Salukis blew past Indiana State late in the fourth quarter to defend their home court Feb. 23.

The Dawgs played a close first quarter against the Sycamores ending it down by one 22-21. Southern went point for point with Indiana State in the second and third quarters to go into the fourth 54-52.

Southern came out in the fourth quarter ready to fight back. Starting the quarter with a three by junior Sydney Prochaska followed with 12 points by Ashley Jones and a 14 point lead with 1:42 left in the game, the Salukis defended their home court winning the game 79-64.

The Salukis were led by Ashley Jones with 20 points, Aja Holmes followed with 16 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Laniah Randle led the Salukis in rebounds finishing the game with eight. Senior Promise Taylor was close behind with nine points and two rebounds.

Southern’s bench was on fire, scoring the Sycamores in bench points, 33-13 and 19-11 in points off turnovers.

The Salukis will host the Evansville Aces at the Banterra Center on Feb. 25 for their last home game of the season. The game will be streamed on ESPN3 at 2 pm.
