Cross Country wraps up strong season at NCAA Midwest Regional

The SIU Cross Country team recently competed at the Midwest Regional this past Friday. The men’s and women’s teams competed at the event, with the women taking 21st out of 33 teams with 594 total points scored. The men took 20th place out of 27 teams with a 520 point total.

Senior Rachel Anderson led the way in 52nd place for the women, with a 21:10.5 time in the women’s 6k run. Sophomore Brianna Nieset was exactly 40 seconds behind in 106th place with a 21:50.5 timing.

Senior Leah Metzger and freshman Tabitha Bevan weren’t far behind in 121st and 152nd places with 21:58.4 and 22:27.4, respectively. Finishing the scoring for the women was junior Stephanie Anthonies in 168th place with a 22:51.4 time and sophomore Ansley Bailey in 213th place with a 23:56.0 time.

The SIU men had two top 48 finishers on the team in sophomores Dawson Smith and Ethan Senti. Smith took charge in 35th place with a 30:17.9 run in the men’s 10k run, while Senti trailed behind in 48th place with a 30:32.4 time. Freshman Weston Jokerst placed in 134th with a 31:47.4 time. Freshman and sophomore duo William Kaempfe and Uriah Guthrie finished within a second of each other in 159th and 160th places and 32:06.0 and 32:06.7 times. Travis Hart rounded things out in 166th place with a 32:19.7 time.

The Salukis finished out their 2022 season on these performances and will start to prepare and look forward now to the 2023 season.
