SIU senior defensive specialist, Katy Kluge, goes down low for the save vs. EIU. SIU would later on drop their early 2-0 lead and fall to EIU 3-2 on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021 during the Saluki Invitational at the Banterra Center at SIU.

Saturday the Salukis were swept at home by the Northern Iowa Panthers in a three set match.

The Salukis finished the game hitting .085 percent, while the Panthers finished with a .372 hitting percentage, which was a season high for them.

A kill for the Salukis in the first set by freshman Ceci Bulmahn knocked the Panthers off of their early lead. But they soon regained that lead, hitting .522 percent and having four blocks and three aces to finish the first set.

Two kills in the second match by juniors Tatum Tornatta and Imani Hartfield helped the Salukis fight back from a 20-114 Panthers lead, to 18-22, but the Panthers held the lead to finish the second match.

The Salukis had a brief lead to start the third match thanks to an ace by sophomore Anna Jaworski. The Panthers had a six point run which was followed by a Saluki run which brought the score to 8-9. But the Panthers soon again took the lead and finished the set 25-20.

The Salukis were led by Tatum Tornatta who had nine kills and four blocks. Following Tornatta was Ceci Bulmahn who had five kills, Nataly Garcia had four kills and one block, and Annabelle Sulish who had four kills.

The Salukis will travel to Evansville, Indiana to take on the Aces on Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. with hopes to regain their momentum for the season.
