Cross Country travel to Mizzou for Gans Creek Classic; Men earn 10th, Women earn 17th

The SIU Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams took their efforts to Mizzou this past Friday, where 24 different schools showed up to perform. The Men’s team took tenth place out of 22, while the women’s team took 17th out of 24 different teams there.

The Men’s team came up with an average time of 24:51.84 in the 8k run while totaling 295 points on the day. As for the women’s team, they averaged a 22:34.02 time in their 6k run, making for 469 total points score for the team.

Standout performers for the men’s team consisted of sophomores Dawson Smith and Ethan Senti, and freshman Weston Jokerst. Smith and Senti were within three seconds of each other at the finish line, finishing with a 24:16.6 time and a 24:19.1 time respectively. Smith placed 24th while Senti placed 29th. Jokerst came trailing a couple of placings behind at 66th with his 24:46.6 time.

On the women’s side of things, junior Rachel Anderson finished in 22nd with a 21:00.2 time. The next closest was senior Leah Metzger in 112th place at a 22:26 time and sophomore Stephanie Anthonies in 132nd place with a 22:44.9 time.

Both cross country teams will now have a two-week break before they perform again at Bradley University on October 14th for the last meet before the conference championships.
