Vigil to honor SIU students who died in crash

A vigil will be held on April 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Campus Lake for the two graduate students who died in a fatal car crash that occurred on April 21.

Computer science students Vamshi Krishna Pechetty, and Pavan Swarna died in a fatal car crash involving five SIU students according to a statement from Chancellor Austin Lane.

The Chancellor sent condolences to the families. 


The injured students are graduate student in civil engineering Kalyan Dorna, graduate student in computer science Karthik Kakumanu, and graduate student in computer science Yaswanth Uppalapati. 

“We are working to support the families during this incredibly difficult time. Our Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team is available to help others who are impacted by this tragedy. Our thoughts and hearts are with these students and their loved ones,” Lane said.
