SIU updates campus mask requirements

Southern Illinois University’s Emergency Operations Center sent out a campus-wide email regarding updates to the COVID-19 mask requirements.

According to the email, as the schools have been watching over the COVID-19 trends the school has decided to make masks optional everywhere including classrooms and labs.

Masks will still be required in certain situations including if a professor required masks in their syllabus and places where government regulation institutes mask wearing such as public transportation and health care centers.

The Emergency Operations Center stated they came to this decision by taking into account positivity rates, vaccination rates, and hospitalizations in the area.

They encourage people to stay updated on their vaccinations and the university will continue the state requirements made by Governor J.B. Pritzker.
