The Southern Illinois track team competed in meets hosted by Indiana University and Louisville University on both Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29.

For the throwers, senior thrower Elias Lancaster placed third in weight throw, with a mark of 71’8.75″. This performance took place on Friday in Bloomington, Indiana.

On Saturday, senior thrower A’veun Moore-Jones finished second in the women’s shot put. This is her third meet in a row where she has placed on the podium.

Also on Saturday in Bloomington, senior runner Kayla Schiera ran her personal best time of 9:42.77 in the 3000m. This time ranks second all-time for Saluki runners.

Now, in Louisville, sophomore runner Iaunia Pointer placed second in the 60m with a time of 7.53. Pointer also made history during the meet, as she ran a facility-best 23.90 in the 200m for first place in the event.

The Salukis’ next meet will be on Feb. 4-5, in the SIU recreation center. The event will take place all day and will be hosted by the university.

This is the Don Denoon Invite, named after Denoon who was a track and cross country coach at SIU for 18 years. The event was named after his service to both programs.
