SIU student Daniel Fernando Lobo dies in shooting
Yet again, students at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU) are mourning the loss of one of their own. Biological Science student Daniel Fernando Lobo, 22, was shot and killed in Gurnee, Illinois, on Saturday, Nov. 20.
His father confirmed the death to SIU. Rene F. Lobo also posted about the loss on his Facebook page.
“The day you were born I was there,” Rene Lobo wrote. “The day a bullet took away your precious life I was on my way to work… How I wish I was there to shield you with my body so you can continue your life full a goals and dreams… Always in my heart mijo. This emptiness will stay until the day I die.”

An obituary page says Daniel Fernando Lobo was just six months from completing his master’s degree. On her Facebook page, Iztel Lobo said her brother was, “so close to reaching his dreams.”
“Words cannot describe the pain that I feel,” Itzel Lobo said. “Watch over us Daniel, fly high angel.”
The website of the Memorial Chapel of Waukegan said Lobo’s visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 26, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Church, 2415 N Butrick Street, Waukegan, Illinois. His mass will be held at the church as well, on Saturday, Nov. 27, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Road, Libertyville, Illinois.
