The Southern Illinois soccer team (0-6-3,0-5-3 MVC) fell in their final game of the season 4-1 to the Missouri State Lady Bears (4-7-2,2-4-1 MVC) in Springfield, Mo.

No goals were scored in the first ten minutes of play but Missouri State got on the board in the 12th minute.

Missouri State drew a corner kick and capitalized on it: senior midfielder Bryn Mcquaid crossed the ball into the box. Junior defender Isabel Burke was right on the other end of it and got the ball just past the Salukis’ keeper sophomore Maddy Alaluf.

Just over a minute after play resumed, the Bears added to their lead. Sophomore midfielder Jade Loftness headed the ball into the box and junior midfielder Jacqueline Baetz got to the ball first and put it right in the top corner of the net.

The Salukis wouldn’t be down two goals for long as they scored their first goal of the season in the 19th minute.

Sophomore forward Emma Spotak drove the ball down to the end line just inside the box and crossed it right in front of the net with sophomore midfielder Kaitlin Ducharme waiting on the other end for the easy tap in.

That would make the score 2-1 and it would stay there until the 49th minute.

In the early second half, senior forward Emma Scornia assisted a goal by Baetz after the Salukis committed a turnover in front of the box.

Missouri State added on a fourth and final goal in the 63rd minute.

The Salukis will now prepare for a normal fall season that should start in August.
