Ramblers shut out Saluki soccer 5-0
SIU soccer (0-4-3, 0-3-3 MVC) dropped a 5-0 match to the Loyola Chicago Ramblers (6-0-1 MVC) on March 28 at Chicago.
The Ramblers have won six out of their last seven matches, and the Salukis are in a two-game skid after dropping a matchup against University of Northern Iowa on March 21.
The Loyola defense stifled Southern’s offensive efforts, as SIU only had two shots across 90 minutes of play, none falling on goal.

SIU struggled to contain Loyola’s offense, however, as the Ramblers took a total of 20 shots, 11 falling on goal, and also found 12 corner kick opportunities.
Sophomore midfielder/forward Megan Nemec scored the first two goals for LUC in quick succession: at the 11:17 mark she scored on a cross ball from sophomore midfielder/defender Amanda Cassidy, and less than a minute later Nemec scored again from an assist by senior forward Katharine Stephens.
Loyola’s third goal came from senior midfielder Lindsey Hardiman assisted by senior midfielder Freya Glenn around the 20 minute mark, giving the Ramblers a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Less than five minutes into the second half Hardiman scored her second goal of the game and fourth of the season with an assist from Nemec.
Sixty minutes into play Cassidy scored Loyola’s fifth and final goal with an assist from Nemec on the crossed ball.
For the Salukis, sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Alaluf returned this week to start in goal, and recorded three saves during the first 30 minutes of the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Dariana Mihalache started in goal for SIU after halftime and had two saves.
