Black Women’s Brunch hosted by Black Resource Center
March 17, 2021
The Black Women’s Brunch was held Wednesday, March 17, 2021 in the Student Center ballroom in Carbondale, Ill.
Tami Oluyemi, 20, double majoring in nursing and public health, shares her view about Black women’s society on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the Student Center ballroom in Carbondale, Ill. “This is a big thing for women like us. I see myself as a nurse serving people and want to pursue my Phd. If I can do anything for this society, I will help it out in any way,” Oluyemi said.
“We are on the council that helps all the Black students on campus. We are actually a resource to them. There is a council on campus if you need any type of resources, completing your homework, a related scholarship, a place to hang out, but since COVID we cannot do gatherings in the common area,” Avian Wilkins, one of the hosts and organizer said.
“We do offer free paintings for students. We work for the Black Resource Center and make sure all of the organizations have the right funds. This is the first event for Women’s History Month and for now we are preparing for graduation. This is just an event to encourage Black women and it’s just a place to express their views and ideas,” Avian Wilkins said.
