The Jackson County Health Department was notified yesterday of another resident who tested positive for the coronavirus.
According to a release from the Jackson County Health Department, the individual is a female in her twenties who likely contracted the virus from traveling to another state.
To date, there have been eight confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Jackson County.

Public health officials are looking into this investigation and speaking with people whom this woman might have been in contact with, according to the release.
Through this investigation, the health officials might place other individuals on home quarantine if they are determined to have had significant exposure to the virus.
Even though these individuals might be asymptomatic, public health officials are urging them to stay in quarantine for a certain period of time which allows symptoms to develop and pass without risking the health of others, the release said.
Health officials expect more cases to be confirmed locally but the number of cases can be reduced by following Gov. JB Pritzker’s stay at home order, washing hands frequently, disinfecting commonly touched surfaces and maintaining a safe distance from others.
The Jackson County Health Department is urging people to contact the SIH 24 hour COVID-19 hotline. Clinicians will be available for testing and to answer questions.
