SIU women’s swim and dive team finishes second overall in MVC Championships

Southern Illinois hosted the Missouri Valley Conference Championships on April 14-16 at Shea Natatorium. SIU’s swimming and diving team finished second in the championships, scoring 548.5, with Missouri State finishing in first place and Indiana State in third place.
On day one of the MVC Championships, freshman Mima Zaborska took first place in the 200-individual medley with the time of 2:02.36.
In the 200-freestyle relay, SIU’s team of senior Imogen Watson, freshman Gaby Jenkins, sophomore Lucia Romero and senior Sierra Forbord finished in second place with their season best time of 1:33.33.

Forbord swam her personal best time of 23.03 in the 50-freestyle, earning second place. SIU also took second in the 400-medley relay with the time 3:43.45.
Freshman Ally Brown made fourth place in the one-meter “A” final with a score of 231.15. The Salukis finished the first day in second place with 177 points.
Southern started the second day of the championship with a second place win in the 200-medley relay with the team Romero, Zaborska, Watson and Forbord with the time of 1:41.18.
In the 200-freestyle, Forbord swam her all-time best with the time 1:48.94, earning the second place spot. Romero and Zaborska earned first place titles in the 100-backstroke (54.65) and the 100-breaststroke (1:01.15).
SIU remained in second place at the end of the second day of competition with the score of 363.5 points.
On the last day of competition, Forbord won second place in the 100-freestyle final with the time 50.06. Zaborska broke the school record in the 200-breaststroke final, winning first place with the time 2:12.96.
SIU’s team of Forbord, Jenkins, junior Abbey Desmet and Romero won second place in the 400-freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.97, which is a new school record.
