Southern Illinois swim and dive competes in the first tri-meet of the season

The SIU swimming and diving team held a tri-meet against Valparaiso and Little Rock on Mar. 12 at the Shea Natatorium. The men’s team finished with a win against Valparaiso 218.4-43.5 and women’s team defeated Valparaiso (223-47) and Little Rock (185-86).
The men’s swimming team took the first three spots in the 500 freestyle, with sophomore Sam Flessner coming in first place (4:45.98), sophomore Max Ransom in second place (4:48.88) and freshman John Cameron in third place (4:52.28).
In the women’s 200-IM final, the Salukis managed to secure first and second place with freshman Mima Zaborska taking first place with a time of 2:06.64 followed by sophomore Mariana Sanchez with a time of 2:09.85.

Southern’s women’s relay team of senior Sierra Forbord, sophomore Lucia Romero, freshman Gaby Jenkins and junior Abbey Desmet finished in second place in the 400 freestyle relay. Little Rock’s relay team placed first and third.
The last event of the meet was the men’s 400 freestyle relay and the Salukis finished with the first and second place spot followed by Valparaiso.
The swimming and diving teams next meet will be held on Mar. 19 at the Shea Natatorium at 2 p.m.
