October 29, 2020

With Halloween on Saturday, many people will be looking for fun, spooky activities that will easily allow social distancing.

Matt Ahlfield and Isaac Gibson, co-owners of Backwoods Axe Throwing in Murphysboro, plan to show classic Halloween movies throughout the Halloween weekend while allowing people to celebrate, Purge style.

Backwoods Axe Throwing is an indoor axe throwing facility that features eight axe throwing lanes and a bar. Ahlfield and Gibson celebrated the business’ one year anniversary on July 18, 2020.

The scoring in axe throwing works just like darts and whoever has the highest score after 10 throws is the winner.

Backwoods Axe Throwing also offers opportunities for people to stay involved in throughout the year. Such as group events, walk-in or reserved throwing for small groups, and Axe Throwing League.

“So we’re a part of the World Axe Throwing League. So, the league is actually in 19 countries and there are seven members here and every Thursday they come in and get four matches in,” Ahlfield said.

As temperatures drop, people tend to visit Backwoods Axe Throwing more frequently, Ahlfield said.

Their hours are Thursday: 4-10 p.m., Friday: 4-11 p.m., Saturday: 12-11 p.m., and Sunday: 12-6 p.m.
