New Humanist Forum: “The Case Against War: What Americans Need to Know about Foreign Policy”

November 19, 2017 @ 12:15 pm - 1:30 pm

The next New Humanist Forum will take place on Sunday, November 19th at 12:15pm at the Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship, 105 N Parrish Lane. The topic is “The Case Against War: What Americans Need to Know about Foreign Policy” presented by Rich Whitney.
The United States has been at war for 16 straight years in Afghanistan with no end in sight. In 2016, it dropped 26,171 bombs on seven countries. We have spent trillions of dollars on war, inflicting death and massive human suffering on millions of people, making the world less safe and secure in the process. Yet the media rarely pay attention, and many Americans go about their daily lives without thinking about what their government is doing in their name.
Local attorney and Green Party peace activist Rich Whitney will make the case that Americans should be outraged at how our government is conducting itself overseas. In this comprehensive review, he will explain why our acts of war are immoral, illegal, unconstitutional and unjustified. He will expose some of the lies used to justify recent wars and show the real motives behind them. He will make the case for building a revived, strong peace movement to demand an end to policies that do not serve the interests of American workers.
The New Humanist Forum is a member-led group devoted to exploring together all the many facets of “what it means to be fully human.” To attend or participate one does not need to be a Fellowship member. The community is invited to this free event.
