Salukis hang on for five sets against Evansville

Southern Illinois needed a win tonight to have a chance at making the MVC Tournament, and were able to take care of business in five sets against the University of Evansville Purple Aces.

As the end of the season fast approaches, Saluki volleyball was looking for a win over the Indiana State Sycamores tonight to help propel them into the postseason. That wouldn’t be the case tonight, as Southern Illinois fell in three sets to Indiana State on the Sycamores’ home court (25-21, 20-25, 22-25, 18-25).

Fouls and turnovers proved to be Southern’s downfall in tonight’s loss to the IUPUI Jaguars. There were 21 Saluki fouls committed in tonight’s game, which was three more than what the opposing Jaguars had on the night. Nearly half of SIU’s fouls were committed in the first quarter alone.

In athletics, the crowd will normally only see performance days or game days. Game day is important, but in order to make it there, players have to go through countless hours of training and practice. Without strengthening and conditioning, players would be at a higher rate of injury and would not be able to perform at their best abilities.
