Saluki football’s Kyle “Bubba” Schweigert has been named the new head football coach at University of North Dakota.

Schweigert was the defensive coordinator at SIU from 2008 to 2013 and has been the associate head coach since 2009.

“It is truly an honor and a privilege to serve the University of North Dakota as its head football coach,” Schweigert said in a North Dakota athletics press release.

Schweigert will return to Grand Forks, ND where he was an assistant coach from 1989 to 2003.

Senior linebacker Bryan Presume said Schweigert has done a lot for him since he became a Saluki.

“I’m happy for him and I think he’s going to succeed up there,” Presume said.

Schweigert will be introduced as the Bison head coach in a press conference Friday.
