Carbondale police identified the victim as Tony Johnson, 35, of East St. Louis.

Police said they arrived on the 700 block of East College Street at 2:41 a.m. and found the victim with a fatal gunshot wound.

The suspect is described as a heavy set individual with a beard, police said.

Police ask anyone with information to call  the City of Carbondale Police Department at (618) 457-3200 or Crime Stoppers at (618) 549-COPS (2677).
