The gunman who massacred at least 50 people at a Las Vegas concert has been identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock.

Paddock killed himself before officers reached him on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, where police said he opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival across the street.

Authorities did not provide any motive for the killings, which Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said also sent more than 400 people to the hospital.

The sheriff said that he did not know the “belief system” of Paddock, who lived in Mesquite, Nevada.

He worked as an accountant, according to ABC, and public records show that he has both a pilot’s and hunting license.

Lombardo said that the gunman, who he called a “lone wolf,” is believed to have used multiple rifles to attack his victims from the hotel.

More than 10 rifles were found in the room, where police believe Paddock had been staying since Thursday.

One off-duty Las Vegas police officer was among those killed. Police also sent out alerts looking for a “companion” of Paddock, 62-year-old Marilou Danley, as a person of interest.

It was not immediately clear what the relationship between Danley and Paddock was, though Lombardo said that she could be a “roommate.”

The search for Danley, who was out of the country, was later called off after officers determined that she was not part of the attack.
