Carbondale police seek help identifying body

Carbondale police still don’t know the identity of a body that was found last week near a creek on East Main Street, police said Tuesday morning.

The body was discovered Aug. 30 in the 900 block of East Main near Piles Fork Creek and Midas auto repair shop after officials responded to an active fire just after 8 a.m., police said at the time.

Upon extinguishing the fire, a body was discovered, according to police reports.

The identity of the victim is still unknown. Police do not know the race or sex of the victim, Carbondale police said in a news release.

For more than an hour Tuesday morning,  police “conducted an informational checkpoint” at East Main Street and Lewis Lane “to attempt to gather additional information” regarding the death.

Police said there is no further information available to release at this time.

The department is asking anyone with information to call them or their anonymous tip line at 618-549-2677.
