a day and a half Connery’s character is flat and almost passionless, and the romance between Lancelot and Guinevere is trite and silly. Sure, the cinematography is lovely. And it is hard to imagine anyone looking better than Ormond and Gere riding on a white horse in the ocean spray. But this movie has no real reason for existing, except as a big-name star vehicle. And although it is not terribly fair to criticize a movie because it is not something else (like Excalibur), I’m going to do it anyway. First Knight has no magic and no dark allure. So although I had hoped to give this Knight a shining review, a thumbs up will just have to wait until next week. Maybe
