Intrusion shows guests’ rudeness

By Gus Bode

Once again I have personally been amazed and insulted by members of the Christian community. On Monday Oct. 30 my group Universal Spirituality ( a discussion group mind you) was having a meeting in which the topic was the Pagan meaning, history, and rituals of Halloween. There was a goo number of people there despite the break and many faces. Since an unexpected number of people there despite the break and many new faces. Since an unexpected number had shown up we began to move things around so all could see the speakers. This is when one of the newcomers announced they were not staying and that they had something to hive us. They went around and offered everyone fliers and literature. Most people declined. I then asked them to stay to listen stating that they might learn something. They didn’t stay. But they had the time to wait outside to catch any late comers and to decorate our cars with more literature.

This was actually a peaceful and calm intrusion. But it was exactly that; an intrusion. A disrespectful and rude intrusion.

I can see how the media hype of late about the existence of Pagans in the community and the religious beliefs I have alerted them to us. But once again the respect I give to them and their religious practices was not returned. I, and other Pagans, do not go to their churches of meetings and pass out literature. Nor do we try to covert anyone.

Luckily this was one of the very few fact-to-face situation I have had to deal with in which my beliefs are directly opposed. And this was peaceful and non-confrontational. But it was extremely unnecessary and rude.

I have written a letter to this church telling them of my displeasure but also offering to educate them on my religious beliefs. I hope they accept my offer and are willing to open their minds.
